About the Pterygium Portal
The Pterygium Portal is a medical information resource dedicated to pterygium — its causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and surgery. Its purpose is to give patients clear, accurate and up-to-date information so they can make informed decisions about their eye health. All content is written and medically reviewed under the direction of Prof. Michael Mimouni, MD.
About Prof. Michael Mimouni, MD
Prof. Michael Mimouni is a senior cornea surgeon and one of Israel’s leading specialists in pterygium surgery. He is the former Chairman of the Israeli Cornea Society, Director of the Cornea Unit at Rambam Health Care Campus, and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Technion.
His clinical focus includes pterygium surgery using modern, suture-free techniques based on conjunctival autograft, which replace diseased tissue with the patient’s own healthy tissue to minimize the risk of recurrence. Alongside his surgical practice, Prof. Mimouni is an active researcher and academic contributor in the field of cornea and anterior-segment surgery.
Our approach
Every patient is assessed individually. The goal of surgery is a durable, single-procedure result with the lowest possible chance of recurrence and an excellent cosmetic outcome — achieved through careful technique, appropriate use of modern tools, and attentive follow-up during healing.
